Two-Day Bag Making Using Domestic Sewing Machines, weekend

Duration: 14 hours

Class Times: 10am till 6pm

This course concentrates on bags that are essentially soft in structure and achieve their form from pattern pieces that are sewn together. Students will complete a finished product over the two days from patterns provided.

Although the bags can be made using industrial equipment the purpose of the course is to show techniques in how to achieve a professional standard of finish using a domestic sewing machine. The bags can be produced from a variety of cloth up to furnishing weight with leather trimming and straps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any experience to attend a Two-Day Bag Making class using Domestic Sewing Machines?

No previous bag making knowledge is required but you do need some prior experience of using a domestic sewing machine. Reasonable sewing skills will greatly improve the end results.

What can I do after completing the course if I want to go further?
  1. Attend one or more of our other bag courses:
  2. Practice and develop skills at one of the Prescott & Mackay Monday Open Workshop sessions.
Is it advisable to take the bag making classes in any particular order?

Neither one of the two making courses is more advanced than the other and they both cover techniques that are practical and relevant to bag construction generally. However if you are new to the subject you may want to start with the bag class using domestic machinery and develop your skills in this way before moving on to the class for industrial machinery which would require a certain amount of investment if you're planning on taking it further on your own.

The Shape Making for bags class is an ideal accompaniment for anyone keen to create their own shapes and not rely on existing patterns which can be limiting. If taken before the making classes it can give a better understanding of construction and how pattern pieces are assembled.

How many will there be in a class?

Maximum 6 students.
