Ideal for newcomers and improvers in bag making, this one-day class introduces students to the construction methods of a stylish clutch bag based on available patterns prepared by our renowned tutor Lesley Taylor.
You will learn a range of fabric/leather bag making techniques and walk away with a beautiful classic clutch bag worthy of any special event. The bags can be produced from a variety of cloth or fine leathers.
Content
- Cutting leather/material by hand
- Leather skiving
- Leather folding
- Leather and material sewing
- Practising to use the school's industrial sewing machines
- Attaching standard fittings (magnetic fastener)
- Assembling backings, linings and gussets
Things you need to bring with you:
- Otherwise stated in the course page, please bring your own leather or fabric for the body of your bag to ensure you go home with the perfect bag to your expectation. You will need 1 square meter of fabric or leather for the cover and 1 square meter of fabric or leather for the lining. The leather shouldn't be too thick or stiff. - Notebook and pen
- Any trimmings you wish to use i.e. ribbons, buttons, decorations
- There is a basic selection of lining leather of colours such as natural, black, grey and brown available in the studio for you to use, but you are welcome to bring your own lining materials. Please contact us first if you are not sure about what to bring.
No previous bag-making experience is needed for this course which is suitable for everyone. We believe you will have great fun!
Experience of using a domestic sewing machine will be an advantage in this class.
