This class is an intensive one-day course, covering the essential techniques required for design and development of bag patterns for the majority of standard bag constructions. The student will leave the class with knowledge of how to analyse a bag style into its component parts and create patterns accordingly.
The course is suitable for both beginners looking to get started and learn the basics and professional designers. It focuses on the importance of proportion and accuracy in all aspects of the pattern cutting process including the main body of the bag, lining, backer, collar and gussets and how to deal with a variety of materials in order to achieve a professional look to your designs.
Course content:
- Pattern cutting techniques for bags. Students will be able to draft accurate patterns for either soft or structured bags.
- Basic construction of bags
- Bag closures and design details for bags
- For students who intend to continue onto one of the advanced or private tuition bag making classes there is an opportunity in the afternoon to start and develop patterns for a bag of their own design.
Price includes all pattern making materials, such as masking tape, pattern paper, sampling fabric/leather and refreshments.
