One-Day Footwear Production Seminar

Duration: 7 hours

Times: 10am till 6pm

This unique seminar is tailored-made for those planning to start a shoe business either in retail, design or production. It is also ideal for anyone who's job requires a thorough understanding of the production cycle. Example of this may be where there is a need to communicate effectively between the technical and or buying teams, liaise with the manufacturer or market a range.

The session can be taken alone but also works as the third of a three-day module that includes the One-Day Design class and One-Day Interpretation of Footwear Design Class. The three classes have bee developed to offer a rounded appreciation of the design and design interpretation aspects and the ongoing steps towards establishing a viable production base.

The seminar is presented by Aki Choklat, a graduate of the Royal College of Art in London who has been running his own men's and ladies footwear label for several years. He is able to offer an invaluable insight to the seasonal operation from initial design concept and working with a factory through to sampling and taking the product to market.

Complementary advice is given by Melissa Needham, the Principal of Prescott & Mackay and owner/buyer of shoe and accessory retail brand Black Truffle. Melissa offers the perspective of a target customer who's job involves sourcing interesting and commercially enterprising labels for her stores.

What the Tutor says about this course

The seminar is unique and provides invaluable information to anyone who is even remotely involved in footwear design or production.

As a buyer myself, purchasing from a number of design labels both nationally and overseas, It's essential to understand the production cycle. It can take a long time to learn when there's no one there to tell you and I for one would have given my high teeth for a lecture like this when I was starting up in business.
