Two-Day Shoemaking Made-to-Measure Techniques
This class is aimed at those who already have a basic understanding of general footwear construction and are looking for an entry into traditional made-to-measure techniques.
During the session students will be introduced to some of the technical processes used by generations of craftsman in the discipline of made-to-measure footwear.
Students begin by learning how to take precise measurements of the foot with the aim of establishing where the last - the form upon which shoes are made - would need to be re-modelled in order to produce a custom fit. Students go on to make changes to the last according to their measurement and then create a mock-up pair of shoes, allowing them to practice some of the skills particularly associated with traditional construction methods.
Please note, the class does not cover orthopaedic footwear.
Students will need a pair of ladies or men's lasts in their own standard size on which to work during the class. They can either bring these themselves else Prescott & Mackay can provide a pair for them at a discounted rate of £65 inc VAT. Please let us know which you prefer when booking your class.
