This development programme will consist of three modules and students can choose to take any of the modules separately or book them in block.

Course Content:

Module 1: Footwear Design and Production Masterclass, taught by Aki Choklat.

In this module you will:

Develop a design concept
Explore design techniques
Learn to communicate a design brief
Interpret footwear designs
Look at technical drawing
Produce a collection of designs

Module 2: Guided Lecture at Lineapelle, Italy, tutored by Aki Choklat or Melissa Needham.

Visiting Lineapelle in Bologna - tradeshow featuring European exhibitors of footwear and accessory components and leather
Trend forcasting seminar
Understanding the design and production cycle in the footwear industry
Sourcing shoe components and leather

For this module students will arrange their own travel to Italy as well as accommodation. Tutors will meet students at Lineapelle for the above seminars and lectures.

Module 3: Five-Day Intensive Shoemaking Course, London, taught by Thomas Murphy.

Preparing footwear uppers for construction
Preparing footwear components for construction
Constructing a closed shoe
