Scheduled with a choice of weekend or weekday classes in London and weekend classes in San Francisco, this two day shoemaking course is aimed at newcomers to shoemaking, looking to learn the basics. Students study the fundamental techniques of shoemaking allowing them to complete a hand-lasted pair of ladies mules by the end of a session.
Shoemaking patterns are provided and the emphasis is on the making rather than design. However, the choice of shoe styles, either with a two inch heel or a flatie, is very contemporary and mules can be made in standard sizes (British 2 to 9, European 35 to 42, American 5.5 to 11.5) as well as from a variety of finishes, fabric or leather.
The price includes specialist shoe components. A very limited selection of pig skin is available in the studio as the leather for lining, of colours such as natural, black, grey and brown, but you are welcome to bring your own lining leather.
Things you need to bring with you:
- Material that you wish to use for your shoe uppers, either a lightweight leather skin such as pig, calf or goat which is about 1/2 X 1/2 square metres, or 1/2 metre of fabric which should not be too stiff or transparent. Please click the Useful Links to view the supplier list about where to source leather or fabric
- Sharp fabric scissors
- Notebook and pen
- Any trimmings you wish to use i.e. ribbon or feathers
No previous shoemaking experience is necessary. Class maximum: 8 students.
