Advanced Courses - Two-Day Shoemaking - Made-to-Measure Techniques

Duration: 14 hrs
Class times: 10am - 6pm
Course tutor: Sebastian Tarek

This class is aimed at those who already have a basic understanding of general footwear construction and are looking for an entry into traditional made-to-measure techniques.

During the session students will be introduced to some of the technical processes used by generations of craftsman in the discipline of made-to-measure footwear.

Students begin by learning how to take precise measurements of the foot with the aim of establishing where the last - the form upon which shoes are made - would need to be re-modelled in order to produce a custom fit. Students go on to make changes to the last according to their measurement and then create a mock-up pair of shoes, allowing them to practice some of the skills particularly associated with traditional construction methods.

You will need to have some previous experience of shoemaking and be familiar with the basic terminology common to shoemaking in general.

Things you need to bring with you:

  • A pair of ladies or men's lasts on which to work during the class.  Please contact us if you need advice of where to purchase lasts.
  • Sharp fabric scissors
  • Notebook and pen

Please note, the class does not cover orthopaedic footwear. Maximum 8 students.

This course price includes a componant pack worth £45.
