Two-Day Millinery. Blocked Hats, weekday

If you are interested in making yourself a stylish hat, whether for a special occasion, smart everyday wear or simply just to discover some of the trade secrets of this skilled profession, our millinery class is for you.

Over the two days the course covers the essential techniques in constructing a 'blocked' hat - one that's formed on a wooden millinery crown and brim block in either felt, straw or sinamay.

All the work is done by hand and the several processes involved from steaming and moulding to stitching the various elements, finishing and trimming make for a very packed weekend. Prudence, the course tutor, always does her very best to ensure everyone attending this class goes away with a professional looking hat they will be happy to wear, whatever the function and that she herself is proud of.

What students are saying about this course

I was looking for a hat to wear to Ascot and this was the perfect solution. I knew there were plenty of places I could buy one off the shelf but was keen for it to match my outfit and the idea of making it myself was much more exciting. Prudence is a fantastic tutor and her experience of working with some of the most innovative names in fashion meant I came away with an inspired creation that really hit the mark.
