Q I'm a shoe and bagaholic: I have a huge collection, spend a lot of money on them and particularly relish finding unusual styles and one-off designs.

Now I'd like to have a go at making my own accessories. Can you suggest any courses to get me started?

I have a full-time job working for a bank in the City of London, so I'd need to do a class that is held in the evenings or at weekends.

A What a good idea. In the industry, Prescott and Mackay (020 7923 9450) is a college with a very good reputation and it runs several courses in soft and structured bagmaking, as well as millinery and shoemaking.

It also does courses in pattern-cutting for shoes and bags, and is based very near to designer-heaven Bond Street where you can browse for inspiration before you start.

Most courses run at weekends and three times a year it runs 10-week evening classes. Some ask that you have a basic knowledge of the chosen area, but there are also crash courses for beginners. And you get to make a product to take away with you.

See www.prescottandmackay.com for details. And good luck - maybe we'll feature your work one day!
